Earth House, Glass House, Cave
Three distinct volumes are perched on a clay bluff above Okanagan Lake. A buried concrete garage leads up into a glass pavilion housing the public functions of the house, while the bedrooms are wrapped in a protective skin of rusted steel and covered by a green roof. The project makes use of many unconventional technologies including a green roof, geothermal heating and cooling, custom fabricated rusted steel cladding panels, an exposed steel structure, structural insulated panels, and high performance glazing with commercial aluminum frames.
